Moseley Memorial Music Series
St. Thomas' Epsicopal Church Concert
Featuring - Alan Zhang
Houston Brass Band will be performing at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 2:30 PM. As part of the Moseley Memorial Music Series, the Band looks forward to collaborating with Bryan Anderson, Director of Music, every concert season.
This year, we are proud to feature Alan Zhang, the winner of the Houston Brass Band's 2024 Young Brass Soloist Competition. Alan will be performing Edward Gregson’s Tuba Concerto with the Band.
Alan began his musical journey at a young age, starting with the piano. In sixth grade, he discovered tuba and quickly fell in love with the instrument. He eventually won the Texas Eastman Tuba Competition in eighth grade.
Currently a junior at Cypress Woods High School, Alan is an active member of the Houston Youth Symphony and serves as a drill instructor for the Cypress Woods High School Marching Band. His talent and hard work have led him to numerous competitions, including the prestigious Falcone Competition, where he was named, 4th alternate in the student division. He also achieved 7th place in the Texas All-State in 2024.
This year, Alan secured an alternate spot for the National Youth Orchestra 2, and advanced to the semifinal round of the International Tuba and Euphonium Competition that will happen during the summer in Valencia, Spain.

He also plans to compete in the Falcone Competition again.
Alan intends to pursue a double major in Music and Biology/Neuroscience in college, combining his love for music with his interest in sciences.
The Houston Brass Band has featured the winner of our Young Brass Soloist Competition for the last 10 years, and we cannot wait for you to hear Alan’s performance. For more information or to purchase your ticket, please click here
