
Young Brass Soloist Competition - Registration Now Open
It is an exciting year for the Houston Brass Band as we celebrate 25 years of British Brass Banding in Houston! To mark this milestone, we are thrilled to announce our 11th Annual Young Brass Soloist Competition, supported by our educational outreach programs.
This competition is a fantastic opportunity for students in the greater Houston area to showcase their talents, win scholarship awards, and perform a solo with the band during their 2026/2027 concert season.

Competition Details
The competition is divided into two divisions, running concurrently on the day of the event.
- Junior Division: Grades 7 - 8
- Senior Division: Grades 9 - 12
Grand Prize: The first-place winner of the Senior Division will receive the Bridget Jensen Award for Excellence and an invitation to perform as a featured soloist with the Houston Brass Band during our 2026/2027 concert season.
Competition Rules
Instruments: Open to all brass players, including trumpet, cornet, flügelhorn, horn (Eb or F), baritone, euphonium, trombone, bass trombone, tuba, and Eb/Bb bass.
Repertoire: One piece of music per entry. Junior solos must be under 7 minutes; Senior solos must be under 10 minutes.
Accompaniment: You may perform unaccompanied or provide your own pianist. HBB can provide an accompanist for a $75 fee if requested in advance.
